As impossible as it may seem, you need to find space in your RV to designate to the dogs. Part of the reason we bought a camper as big as ours - 28 feet - was to accommodate for two large dogs.
On the floor between my bed and the wall, is the dog bed. It blew me away when Leda first walked over there and curled up. But she loves it. It's her space, and she knows it.
I quickly realized that their regular foam beds were not going to fit. I did some searching and found a dog bed that acts like a sleeping bag. It rolls right up into it's own bag for transport and storage. One side is soft and made to provide warmth, while the other side is made for cool down.
Because it's an RV, the floor is thin and sometimes it gets cold. So I lay down a folded moving blanket under the dog bed.
Personally, I have no problem giving up my foot room for my dogs. But my husband is another story. Besides that, his side is by the door, where there's all sorts of stuff going on. Plus, I knew the dogs wouldn't like that side because while laying there, they would not be able to see us because of the protruding cabinet. So it wasn't realistic for a second dog bed to go on the other side of our own bed.
The couch quickly became a favorite - right in the middle of everything going on. When we first set out, Josie would sleep on the couch and Leda on her dog bed. Eventually they began to switch and take turns between the couch and the bed. Don't ask me how they kept track of who's turn it was!
The big thing is that they both have their spots. As soon as we come inside and they usually get their fill of water and treats, they both go to their respective spots. It's all about comfort and security. And the happier your dog is, the better travel companion they will be.
