Unforgettable Moments of 2018
1) Exploring New Mexico - February
One of our surprises this year was discovering New Mexico. Even better was spending our time in New Mexico with family who made the trek from Ohio to hang out with us. From the awesome state parks, to the Carlsbad Caverns, the White Sands, awesome hiking trails, the UFO Museum in Roswell and an unexpected visit to McGinn's Pistachio Tree Ranch, we had a great time.
2) Discovering Utah - March
The moment we crossed the state line into Utah, it was love at first sight. Snowcapped mountains, trees, canyons, cliffs, gorgeous parks, it seems that Utah has it all. We even got to spend time with Fairbanks friends near Zion National Park.
3) Attending our first Xscaper Convergence - March
As members of the Xscapers club, an extension of Escapees, we attended our first convergence in Moab, Utah. We didn’t have plans to attend, but made the decision on a whim, since the location was close to our location at the time. We both agree it was one of the best decisions we ever made, and consider it proof that the best things in life can happen when you operate without a plan! We feel fortunate to have found our Xscaper family friends and enjoy spending time with our tribe.
4) Moving into our new fifth-wheel - April.
Only a full-timer knows the joy of transferring everything you own from one rig to another. In just a matter of days. We spent 2 nights at Midway Auto Sales in Cody, Wyoming in April of this year moving from our bumper-pull to our fifth-wheel. We love our new home immensely and are so happy we made the switch.
5) Yellowstone - April
We enjoyed Yellowstone so much in October of 2017, that we couldn’t resist another visit in April of 2018. Our visit was nothing short of EPIC! This time, instead of elk in our camp, we awoke to a herd of buffalo. We were fortunate enough to watch one of the wolf packs move across a hillside, and even watched a trio of coyotes play together. Seeing animals in their natural habitat is by far one of my favorite parts of this life-style.
6) Adopting our Scooter Pig-Pen - July
All three of us were feeling the emptiness left by the loss of Leda Lou last December. Scooter was an unexpected blessing to us, as he entered our lives at nearly 7 years old with more energy and enthusiasm than we knew what to do with. He is learning quickly and has transformed into an amazing travel buddy who proudly displays his adventure dog status. It is such a joy to watch him experience this new life. He has made our family whole again.
7) Visiting Whidbey Island - October
Visiting Whidbey Island was a big highlight to visiting Washington state. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it. Having lived there when I was a young girl, I was excited to go back to visit. Exploring the cliffs of Deception Pass, hearing the jets pass above, and taking the pups on their first visit to the beach all made for a wonderful visit.
8) Our First Ferry Ride - October
Taking your personal vehicle on a ferry is one thing... But taking your entire house on a ferry brings on a whole new level of nerves. We took our first ferry ride from Coupeville on Whidbey Island to Port Townsend, located on the Olympic Peninsula. We had front row seats! Luckily the trip was uneventful – in a good way.
9) Standing in the Footsteps of Lewis & Clark - October
We have really enjoyed learning about American history while on the road. To actually stand where events took place brings a whole new perspective to understanding our past. Exploring the state and national parks of Lewis & Clark also brought a new appreciation for the vast expanse of our nation, the trials and tribulations these early explorers faced, and what the terms adventure and explore really mean.
10) Walking Among the Giant Redwoods - October/November
Walking among giants through the Redwood forest is a feeling like no other. There is a majestic feel that can’t be described in words, and no picture can do them justice. All I can say is that it filled my heart and soul.
We are ringing in the new year with our Xscaper family, and are excited to see what 2019 has in store!
